East Bali News: Sacred Mountain Sanctuary Reloaded

by Susi, 18 November 2010

You may remember Emerald Starr and Ken Ballard’s Sacred Mountain Sanctuary in the Sidemen Valley. It was a pioneering eco-resort with an earnest emphasis on eco. Now it is being “reloaded” at last, by the Karma Resorts’ developer, Selected Estates of Asia. Innovative Balinese architect Ketut Arthana has created a new master plan, inspired by how a garden grows – – water first, then leaves, then flowers (above). The structures and materials used reflect this poetically (below).

Arthana also designed the bamboo-tiful Taman Ahimsa retreat in Mambal for Five Elements. Download a fact sheet on the regrowth of Sacred Mountain Santuary here.

I've been there, great villa ... and Emerald is a genius in his architecture field and active environmentalist landscaper ... (architecture ! , Im talking about architecture ... not the 'other things') hehhehehe ...

What is the situation with the Sacred Mountain Sanctuary in Sidemen or the plot? We stayed there a few years ago and we really liket it. In February 2011 we noticed that the whole resort was a ruin and partly demolished. There was no building activity.
